Branch Operations Manager

The Branch Operations Manager is responsible for the overall operations side of their Branch. This includes the areas of building and equipment, inventory control, supervision of counter sales desk and yard staff. The Branch Operations Manager will work with sales staff to ensure exceptional customer service and to meet Branch profitability goals.

The Branch Operations Manager is the leader of the branch, and will exemplify the behavior we strive for in all branch staff.



  • Responsible for hiring and termination of Branch Staff with HR support
  • Training of staff for procedures, policies and safety, and product knowledge
  • Annual review of staff performance, recommend for wage increases
  • Review any difficult staff issues with HR department and follow through
  • Pre-approve OT and sign off on timesheets, ensuring accuracy
  • Adhere to staff plan in annual budget, adjusting for volume
  • Schedule staff to provide service and minimize costs

Customer Service & Sales

  • Always looking for opportunities to grow sales
  • Maintains contact with customers, listens to and resolves issues
  • Stays visible in the branch and in the yard
  • Ensures customers are notified when product is available or delayed
  • Work with sales team to meet customer service standards
  • Arrange delivery of outbound orders when requested

Yard, Building, & Equipment

  • Keeps our assets maintained and secure at all times
  • Maintains an orderly yard and showroom
  • Ensures showroom conforms to established showroom criteria
  • Responsible for cost control on above items, follow Capital Expenditure policy
  • Ensures no contaminants dumped in our yard or in our waste bins


  • Ensures all health and safety policies are followed at all times
  • Conduct safety meetings, responsible for safety of employees and customers
  • Ensures all Inventory is stacked in a safe manner
  • Reports any safety or security concerns promptly to the VP Operations

Inventory Management

  • Stock products on branch stocking list in approved quantities within purchasing model
  • Works with Inventory and Purchasing department to manage stock levels
  • Manages and directs annual stock taking
  • Arranges delivery of inbound inventory and direct shipments
  • Ensures stock is rotated and maintained
  • Establishes clearance program and manages continuously
  • Allocates space wisely


  • Completes daily branch admin procedures or ensures their completion
  • Ensures all company policies are followed by themselves and staff
  • Reviews Profitability Report and outstanding orders and follows up regularly
  • Makes bank deposit or assigns
  • Maintain records and files
  • Reviews all CN’s and approves daily, reviews returned product
  • Responsible for petty cash


  • Participates in the annual budget process
  • Ensures branch expenses are kept within budget
  • Completes quarterly report on branch operations
  • Works on sales desk, yard, answers phones as necessary
  • Appoint 2nd in command at branch, delegates tasks as appropriate
  • Complete and maintain courses in first aid, WHMIS and forklift certification
  • Several years experience in a customer service and sales environment
  • Experience leading a team and coaching staff
  • Knowledge of general construction practices
  • Strong time management skills, specifically the ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • A high level of energy and enthusiasm and a customer first approach to business

Working Hours
The Branch Operations Manager will work the hours the Branch is open, except will adjust for Saturdays on a rotational basis. Branch Operations Manager is expected to work these times on occasion and will make a compensating adjustment during the same month.
