Controller – Surrey, BC

Overview

The Controller plays a pivotal role in the financial management and oversight of the organization. You will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial data and reports. Combining technical accounting expertise, strong communication skills and leadership, the Controller oversees the accounting team, and will work with the leadership team and branch managers to meet or exceed corporate goals. You will be responsible for full cycle accounting, staff supervision, internal reporting, preparation of year-end working papers, and assistance with annual external audits. The successful candidate must possess a positive attitude, initiative, and the drive to succeed.

Hours: Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week (onsite)
Salary Range: 100K-130K/yr

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares and analyzes financial statements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of reporting and transactions.
  • Provides meaningful financial analysis and insights to senior management for strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Oversee and supervise Payroll and Accounts Payable functions.
  • Participation in the preparation of annual budgets.
  • Preparation of year-end audit working papers.
  • Manage compliance with sales tax filings and requirements.
  • Safeguard company assets.
  • Evaluate accounting and internal control systems.
  • Must have a comprehensive technical and functional understanding and be willing and able to process all accounting processes (i.e., AR, AP, bank reconciliations, cash management, general ledger, financial prep, and review).
  • Assist with special projects relating to the accounting function as required.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPA designation.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience, including at least 2 years leading a team.
  • Sound knowledge of appropriate controls and ability to review and improve processes and controls.
  • Possess excellent people skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Ability to establish priorities, multi-task, and provide accurate and timely information.
  • Solid problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to consistently show initiative that adds value to the organization.
  • Excellent command of the English language both verbal and written.
  • A team player.
  • Excellent reconciliation skills – ability to identify related items, find outliers and identify the path to resolution.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience using an enterprise reporting system.
  • You will possess a high level of moral judgment and integrity for handling confidential information and monetary transactions.
